Artist Statement

Art History is one of my favorite aspects of being an art major. I am inspired by history in general, but I especially like the ideas of the Expressionist and Fauvist artwork movements. Their use of vivid color and form emphasize the qualities of spontaneity and expression, rather than idealized forms and accurate representation. While learning about the philosophy behind art movements I noticed a commonality in almost all of them: a search for truth through visual expression.

In this pursuit for truth I have discovered that there is not just one truth in the subject of my artwork, but many truths, all differently interpreted and relayed to the viewer. Everyone has his or her own perspective. The most I intend to do with my artwork is transmit my truth, as accurately and as vividly as possible.
